This week we swing into Dancing

ADD NEW MOVES

My wife and I have been doing dancing lessons this year. Lots of learning, lots of laughs, lots of tangled legs! It has become our happy place, this mix of music and movement and connection.

There is lots of research that proves dancing is good for:

Brain health, memory, cognitive skills (especially for the one leading!)
Better strength, coordination, balance, flexibility
Reducing stress and depression
Improving energy levels, heart health, ideal weight loss/gain
Higher self-esteem, confidence
Improved social, emotional health
Our personal research shows that dancing just makes you feel really good!

Suggestion: Remember when you were a kid, hearing some great music and dancing spontaneously? Do it again now! Put on a favourite song, move your body and enjoy the strange looks on the faces of your partner, children and pets.

Wayne Dyer:

“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor. It's to enjoy each step along the way”

Satchel Paige:

“Work like you don't need the money. Love like you've never been hurt. Dance like nobody's watching”

SUBTRACT STALE

We have looked before at these times of newness, change and upheaval as we progress towards a new earth. Our primitive fear reaction to the stress of change is to contract, freeze, and try to control everything. This can make our body-mind stiff, stuck and stale.

So something as simple and grounded as dancing is powerful medicine right there in our two left feet!. A beautiful, uplifting way to shift our energies on all levels. Whether formally or freeform, let’s tango together into the better world we are creating.

Alan Watts:

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance”

Charles Baudelaire:

“The dance can reveal everything mysterious that is hidden in music, and it has the additional merit of being human and palpable. Dancing is poetry with arms and legs”

Big thank you to our teachers, Maki and Steven at 5th Avenue Dance School on the Gold Coast. We appreciate your wonderful combination of expertise, humour and patience!
